Real Time Farms
Jan 22There are many things we’d like With Respect For Food to be, but we keep finding great resources that already exist. They just need more people to realize how great they are. One of our most recent finds is Real Time Farms, a site that rather ambitiously endeavors to track ingredients from restaurants to farms. Their database contains restaurants who reveal their sources; farms, ranches and...
The Rusty Spoon
Aug 07After much wishing and hoping (and a bit of drooling over the menu posted online), Laura and I finally made it to The Rusty Spoon, located in the ground floor of the 55 West building on Church Street. Owned and operated by the same good folks who make the delectable gourmet burgers at Pine Twenty2, The Rusty Spoon classifies itself as a “gastropub,” a new-ish term for a restaurant...
Pine Twenty2
Jun 05Our original goal in changing our diet was to stop supporting industrially-produced meat — which we feel harms people, animals and the planet — and start supporting sustainable methods. We quickly discovered that while there are numerous opportunities to buy raw sustainable meat, it is much more difficult to find restaurants that serve it. So we were very excited to find Pine Twenty2, a...
Pine Twenty 2
May 28About two years ago, John after eating a burger out at a restaurant, turned to me and said “Don’t let me eat burgers out anymore.” The burgers out always seemed too big, too fattening, too greasy, too loaded down with mediocre toppings and a bad bun, all of which left him feeling yucky after he finished. So I have kept him to the no burgers out agreement, until now. While...
Enjoying some Lime
Mar 17And I’m not talking about the citrus, either. I ate at Lime Fresh Mexican Grill for the first time today, and I’m ashamed to say it took a Groupon to get me there! My fajita-style burrito and guacamole were delicious, fresh, and provided a great atmosphere. (To be honest, though, the guacamole was pretty thin, not pure avocado the way I make it at home.) The staff was friendly, and I...
Big Wheel Provisions Food Truck Preview
Mar 14Tony Adams and his partners at Big Wheel Provisions hosted a preview of their food truck last Friday, March 11, which you can see and read about on the Daily City. We need to start making our own media, so that we can be invited to these events! They will be officially debuting the food truck this Wednesday at the corner of Washington St and Orange Ave! I’d be more excited if I had some...
Lime Fresh Mexican Grill
Oct 17My Mother pointed out an article in the Orlando Sentinel yesterday about Lime Fresh Mexican Grill. It is a restaurant with 9 locations, mostly in south Florida, but one opening up the end of this week over in Dr. Phillips area. Why it’s so cool is that they are the first restaurant to be certified humane by Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC). HFAC is a non-profit group set on enforcing their...
Day 53: Is Meat Manly? (Review of Founding Farmers restaurant)
Sep 22We have not had a "meat meal" (where meat is the main course) for a couple weeks now. Frankly, I find that I'm not really craving a big hunk of meat the way I thought I would. The last time I had a "meat meal" was at Founding Farmers in Washington, DC. They believe that every person has the right to enjoy a "green 'meal away from home' and strive to buy ingredients that are sustainable over ingredients that are local or organic. Read on for a full review!
Luma on Park
Aug 21We went out for a fancy dinner last night at Luma on Park, a restaurant who we heard sources their ingredients locally and organically. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and the meal was easily the best we've eaten in Orlando. Ever. Unfortunately, it was a bittersweet experience for us. We discovered this morning that the "local" and "artisanal" meats the restaurant uses are by and large NOT local and come from confinement operations! We are so angry at being fooled that we may not return, even though the food was so incredible.
